saint ghala
The Church of Our Lady of Marghala is located in the far southwest of the town of Amioun, in an area that is now called, in official circles, as "the Citadel of Marghala ". It was a habitat for the monks who used to shelter in the nearby caves, and one of which was built as a shrine, which was transformed in 1910 AD into a church named after the "BreastfeedingLady" or "Marghala ".
The church is small in size, 5.75 m in length and 8 m in width, built in the style of the arch. Most of its ancient contents were lost inside it due to thefts during the civil war. However, the parish was renewed and improved again, and a number of new supplies and icons were brought to it. A new building was added near it in the year 2000, and it is used by the Christian parish as a center for religious activities and education. Next to the church, there are some large natural caves, some of which were used as stables by cattle herders. |
