al dar quartier
In Amioun's alleyways and on its old and historical walls, lie the stories and tales of the rulers who governed this town. But each house in AL Dar (which was the stronghold of Al Azar family during the Ottoman period) has its unique history. There is a court house & palace of the Al Azar house that holds testament of the long history of this district. Also, the house of the hostler Barbar Agha who became governor of Tripoli. And the house of Prince Haidar Al Chehabi near Al Ramieh Gate. And the house where Prince Bashir stayed. This quartier lies near the Saint George Cathedral from the western side, and is basically a large pentagonal courtyard that is surrounded by old houses and has five gates. Most of these old houses were built from stone, soil, wood, and bricks. Moreover, this quartier is rich in caves that are carved in the stone walls by the roads and the stairways.
